5 tips on getting more productive

I’m passionate about this space of mine, however blogging is very time consuming.  It’s not necessary to reinvent every single wheel out there. A simple tip can save hours of work or prevent a truly regrettable experience. My tips are based on lessons learned which is a nice way of saying mistakes.

1. Eat that “frog” first and have regular sleeping habits

In the past I spent a ton of my free time on my blog or visiting other blogs. I was blogging my life away! I’ve found that early in the morning my willpower is fresh and ready to go. I can accomplish more than I’d thought during a dedicated 2 hour window in the mornings which makes me 10 times more productive.

Make sure that you get enough sleep every day! The statistics are out there proving that productive people have a set time frame when they hit the sack to recharge.

2. Set expectations and plan

In order to be more productive, it’s critically important to set goals each month for your blog. Whether it’s putting out more posts a week, increasing traffic or improving quality, it doesn’t matter. If you don’t set goals, how do you measure if you’re focusing on the right things to take your blog to the next level?

I’ve finally come to a point where I’m able to schedule out my blog posts a couple weeks in advance. This frees me from the time pressure of having to get something completed in the next 24 hours. Nothing good comes out of it if I try to get a post out just for the sake of posting something.

I now photograph 3 outfits in one day instead of one per day. It’s no longer “let’s eat out and get a few shots on our way to the restaurant”. Rick and I find locations that offer completely different looks just by walking across the street while maintaining the context. This reduces plenty of travel time.

3. Network and Teamwork

Do it yourself is in my DNA but doing everything myself is neither efficient nor productive. For example, I needed photographs for my blog so naturally I tried to turn my wonderfully supportive husband into a photographer. Tough to make things work when you have opposite schedules and at the end of the day he is not into fashion, neither is he fascinated enough by photography.

My friend, Rick however is a skilled photographer with professional equipment and was looking for someone to work with to build his fashion photography skills. It was a perfect match! I’ve learned so much about photography and modeling from him, it’s amazing!
More importantly, I was reminded of the importance of networking. Sometimes the most supportive people are right in front of you waiting for you to ask. Laura and Alexi support me with useful tips and SEO.

4. Use apps to work more smart and less hard

Technology makes a big difference in my productivity and I use it in many ways. The time invested to find and learn how to use an application pays enormous productivity dividends. Dropbox is a great tool to transfer files and access them from anywhere. Hootsuite, If This Than That and Buffer are huge time savers when it comes to get your latest posts out on your social media channels. Google Analytics is a great tool to keep track of site visits, get monthly stats and get an idea where the page views come from. Rafflecopter is a great tool for hosting giveaways.

5. Take a break

It may sound counterintuitive but taking a break really improves my productivity. This is especially true when I get stuck on something and start spinning my wheels. Taking a break or doing something else for a while and then turning the insolvable problem usually results in a “why didn’t I think of it before?!” moment and I’m back on track. Conversely giving in to the I’ve got to get this finished compulsion simply castes valuable time.

Blogging and fashion is a passion of mine, however I juggle a full time job while blogging and try not to neglect my marriage in between. I take advantage of any opportunities out there that allow me to work smart and cut corners. I hope you found these tips helpful and I would love to hear your input!

Thank you so much for putting so much thought and effort into this post. As you know from my post today, I needed to read all of this. I think at the end of the day procrastination and not having a plan is what sets us up for failure and stress. Thanks a million for stopping by my blog and for your sweet comment.

These are all great tips, I also shoot multiple outfits at once, usually on the weekend and my blog posts are planned out at least a week in advance otherwise it would not happen :).

    Wishing you a Happy Weekend!

Bogy, hahaha I love your pics, you are too cute :-) I just recently disovered your blog but loved it from the first second. I have a full time job as well and can just take pics at the weekend, where I usually take 2 outfit pics, I used to do 3 but my photographer is a teenanger now and so much into partying so she is not that motivated anymore. good for your that you have such a dedicated hubby who takes yours. Have a wonderful weekend my lovely hungarian friend :-*

This is really useful for me as I'm still a beginner at all this. I had no idea how time consuming blogging is. I take your point about setting goals as I am yet to do this. I'm kind of teaching myself as I go along. I do enjoy it though, I would love to have a fashion photographer friend. I have to say the settings you always choose are usually very beautiful, it really adds to the pleasure of reading your posts!

Thank you so much Ani! Your sweet comments mean more than you know. Hubby has been super supportive and used to get up and take those photos no matter what. Since Rick took over, Hubby is back to "full time hubby" position. :-)

Such hilarious pictures, but wonderful advice! I am so impressed you are scheduling posts weeks in advance. I need to get myself to that point!

Ok, now I understand what's going on! I've started blogging… in the beginning of this summer… Created a page, but could not decide what language to use, what exactly to write about. Decided to make it more challenging to improve my English skills (still make tons mistakes and apologize for that in advance) It took me a while to learn even how to edit posts! :) First I was spending all my weekends and nights on that, than I decided to limit my on-line time. But it's really helpful to see how other people do that! I'm still learning and thinking on what else I can do on my little blog! Thank you for sharing your tips!!!!

Bogi, this was such a great and meaningful post! Love how you incorporated your photos into it. BTW, your closet is super organized!! I too juggle a full time job, blogging, and being married. I still feel like I am trying to find the right balance, so I appreciate all the tips you shared, particularly #2. I take my photos in advance, but still have not gotten to the point of having full posts ready to go a week or two in advance. That's definitely a goal of mine!

Great post :) The pictures are prizeless, worth sharing for them alone 😉 I am doing most of these things already, only I cannot seem to get the hang of writing posts too much in advance and scheduling them.
