the do of being yourself

Being your true self sounds like the simplest and most natural thing on the planet, right?

But is it really?
Reaching the point where you are able to focus on your dreams, your true values and priorities is  where you are no longer influenced by what everybody else keeps telling you from six directions. It used to give me a headache.

When you grow up trying to please your parents, your teachers, the cool kids on the block or the cashier at the grocery you get off track. You end up with a large crowd in your head talking. This is the time when you need to hit the mute button. …and you need to take some time and adjust who you keep on mute and who you turn up. Be selective on whose opinion and advice matter. Don’t chase other people’s expectations. It’s a waste of time and it will make you miserable.

People you spend time with off duty should inspire and energize you.

Don’t give a shit! Seriously! There has to be a point in everyone’s life where you do your best and can care less what they think of you. Bottom line is that you work towards your own happiness and professional fulfillment — and help and inspire others along the way (important!). Wherever your passion lies might seem silly to others, so what? What do they got, anyway?

Stop measuring yourself to others’ milestones or opinions. It can get you off track and make you doubt everything you do.
Believe in your potential! As my very wise friend, Rick said one day “Life will work its path out.“, which doesn’t mean that you can sit back in your comfy couch and watch Netflix for the rest of the day. Keep working towards the career you see yourself doing for the rest of your life and stop banging your head against the wall.

Don’t forget about your roots! In order to be your true self and avoid being the next housewife on a high horse (yeah, I watch it too — strictly for fashion reasons, LOL), you cannot forget where you come from.

Your roots are the foundation of YOU!

Loved reading this! Like you said, it's so much easier said than done. "Be you" but society is always judging you for being you so. You can't win ha! Have a wonderful Sunday :) xo // Naomi in Wonderland
