10 best health and beauty benefits of watermelon

You can’t have summer without watermelon! I love to have a few chunks of watermelon for lunch at work to replenish any liquids I forgot to take in, plus it’s a great way to bridge the gap on the go to feel full when you don’t have time to eat. Not to mention those fun seed spitting contests at the beach on a Saturday afternoon. Besides all the fun and practical aspects, watermelon is actually really truly good for you!

Let’s take a closer look at the 10 best health and beauty benefits of watermelon.

1. improves eye health

I always thought I had to eat carrots to improve my eye sight! According to studies if you eat watermelon on a daily basis, it improves your vision. Those wonderful antioxidants, beta carotene and vitamin C guard your eyes from several issues and they can improve eye health.

2. hydrates your body

Watermelon is a great way to stay hydrated in the summer since 90% of the fruit is water. Plus, since it contains very few calories, watermelon will help you feel full and shed a few pounds.

3. alkalizes your body

We all love cheating every now and then and eat a juicy burger, processed foods, and you probably love fresh baked items as much as I do. But these foods trigger the production of acid in our body, which increases the risk of developing certain diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart ailments and Alzheimer’s disease. Ripe watermelons are alkaline in nature and aids in neutralizing these damaging and harmful acids. Who knew?

4. helps prevent cancer

I had to call dad to tell him, when I found this out. Watermelons are high in lycopene, a powerful carotenoid that aids in reducing the risk of breast, prostate, uterus, lung, and colon cancer.

5. stress buster

Watermelon relieves you from anxiety, stress, and fatigue due to the richness of vitamin B6. I really do need to get on a watermelon diet.

What about those beauty benefits of watermelon?

1. treats dry hair

Watermelons are high in beta carotene, which is converted into vitamin A. Vitamin A is responsible for cell growth and the production of sebum, which keeps your hair hydrated and healthy. It also maintains the well-being of scalp.

2. moisturizes skin

The oil of watermelon seeds is light in texture and unclogs your skin pores. It moisturizes your skin and helps it function properly.

3. maintains skin elasticity

Watermelon reduces the effect of ageing and rejuvenates the skin. It also keeps your skin firm by maintaining its elasticity.

4. checks premature aging

Vitamin A, C and lycopene contents of watermelon control free radicals and prevent dark spots, wrinkles, and fine lines.

5. lightens complexion

Watermelons have low calorie content and abundance of vitamin C and water. Whether eaten regularly or applied twice a week, watermelon can improve your complexion and retain the natural glow of the face.

Who knew all this goodness is hiding inside a watermelon?

Stay healthy and hydrated!

As always, thank you so much for stopping by!
