Homemade toiletries sound intimidating or kind of like “I don’t have time for this!” at first. You would also think that homemade toiletries require some special ingredients that are not as easy to get, so you might as well choose the easy way and buy the product. Homemade toiletries are actually really easy to make and don’t require any special ingredients. I ventured out into this area just recently and made several natural beauty products to try out. I can’t say I expected much from them, but boy was I happily surprised when I first applied the homemade yogurt mask! Here are a few easy homemade toiletries and their recipes for you to try:
cleansing facial mask
Mix three tablespoons of oatmeal with two generous tablespoons of honey and apply to your face. Rinse with water after 15 minutes. The oatmeal acts as a fabulous exfoliator, removing any dead skin and leaving your face fresh, clean and soft.
skin toner
Mix together 1 oz. aloe vera gel with 4 oz. witch hazel. Add a drop of chamomile essential oil and mix in thoroughly. Pour into an airtight container or glass bottle.
hydrating facial mask
Mix together 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon lemon and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. It’s heavenly. Apply it whenever your skin needs that extra moisturizing kick.
body scrub
Mix 1 cup of coconut oil with 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of honey. That’s it! It’s just as good as any body scrub you can get from the Body Shop.
foot scrub
Mix two tablespoons of honey with two tablespoons oatmeal and a teaspoon of rock salt. Rub the mixture into your feet and leave for ten minutes before rinsing off with water.
hair conditioner
Pour 3 cups of hot water with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar into a bottle. Add a sprig of rosemary and shake well.
lip balm
Microwave 2 tablespoons cocoa butter with 1 teaspoon coconut oil and half a teaspoon of vitamin E oil together – it should only take a matter of seconds. Transfer to a small container and allow it to set.
facial mist
Pour 40 ml witch hazel, 10 drops rose petal concentrate and 5 ml fractionated pure coconut oil into a travel size mist bottle. Shake well before applying.
…and if you are in the mood for venturing out into making your own skin creams, here are a few wonderful ideas to try.
vitamin E facial moisturizer
Melt 4 oz. cocoa butter in a bain-marie over a low heat. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 teaspoons vitamin E oil and mix thoroughly. Pour into an airtight container and apply to dry skin daily.
almond oil moisturizer
Melt 4 tablespoons of cocoa butter together with 2 tablespoons of beeswax in a microwave for 20-30 seconds. Add one tablespoon of almond oil. Pour it into a container and allow to cool.
