My middle name is the “grumpy cat”. My husband can tell you that I am a person of habit and there isn’t much wiggle room to mess with my morning and evening routines. My days are filled, so it’s a big deal to have my little rituals to start and end my days right.

Let me share with you what works best for me that may well be something you’d give a try.

Here’s my nighttime routine to give my best every day


1. Workout

Most people start their day with a vigorous workout. That would never work for me. I tried it a few times, but my body was very much against it. Closing my work day with a workout works best for me. It allows me to let any steam out, to walk through the day in my head and analyze my actions while burning that donut (or two) I inhaled in my afternoon coffee break.

2. Assess my day

I do this during my workout. Examining my day helps me stay focused and see whether I made any progress or what I should have handled differently. Looking back at your actions truly helps you improve and maintain control over your tasks and overall goals.

3. Plan my next day

This is a simple and quick thing I do while lounging on the couch. I think through what’s on my to do list, pick the most important ones and put them on my calendar for the next and the day after (depending how much I have on my plate). That way I know exactly what needs to be done the next morning and I don’t waste any time trying to remember what’s next.

4. Read

Thank God for iPads, Kindles and Nooks out there! Any of those are the perfect device to read in bed without disturbing your better half. Reading helps me fall asleep quicker. If I feel too tired or my eyes are way too exhausted, I turn on an audio book.

    Great routine. Apart from reading, I do all that in the morning, as I am an early riser. There is a lot of peace and quiet at 6am to plan my day and go through the previous one, unless it’s an early travel day and then I do the planning in the evening. Would love to read more about your beauty routine in the evening. Due to my hectic days sometimes I just fall asleep on the couch and the only thing I get to do when I drag myself to bed is to brush my teeth, so most of my beauty routine takes place in the morning. Somehow I think that doesn’t happen to you and I’d highly appreciate to read how you keep yourself motivated not to fall asleep before applying night cream and all that.

      I hear you, Julia! It used to be very challenging to keep or even start any night time or morning routine when I lived out of my suitcase. I get up very early in the morning just so I can have my own time to gear up for the day. Evening beauty routine? Great question! I will work on a post and get that in the pipeline.         Looking forward to read that. Speaking of living out of the suitcase, I literally have 30 minutes in my day’s schedule to pack for a 4 days exhibition in Amsterdam, before my flight today. I am running though my head what could I pack to last me for 4 hard working days (I assume you know how exhibitions are) plus evenings out with colleagues and friends, and have all that fit into a carry-on. Could use some tips from your out-of-the-suitcase professional experience. Thank you and have a great week !
