rules of chic

To me, looking chic means several things. A chic outfit is comfortable, uncomplicated and classic with simple lines. An outfit that makes you feel good about yourself and doesn’t break the bank. …and an outfit that doesn’t have more than two trendy elements / accessories in it. Chic is simple yet eye catching; a look that makes people remember you for all the right reasons.

So, how exactly does chic look like?

rules of chic

chic work style

It can be a shift dress with a classic design paired with heels, like this look HERE. If you work in a conservative, corporate environment, then choose neutral and dark colors. If you have more lee way, then don’t hesitate to choose your signature color. Keep the prints and colors to a minimum. I find a classic dress with no prints / subtle prints and only 1 – 2 colors elegant and chic. The busier the fabric and textures get, the more you loose on the chic.

Classic design dresses are not just versatile, they also layer really well. I like to add a blazer or a cardigan to my little black dress and easily transition from work into cocktail hour by swapping the top layer out for a bolero or a scarf.

chic casual friday style

Slim fit jeans, a striped top, a navy blazer and a pair of flats. It’s as simple as it gets. If your company dress code doesn’t allow jeans at all, then opt for a pair of pencil or fitted pair of pants. Add some personality with a silk scarf or your favorite bangles.

Now, that we are in the fall season a mid-length knit dress paired with a blazer is also an excellent option for a casual day at the office.

chic weekender

Certainly, anything goes for a weekend look as long as you keep the two most important “chic words” in mind: simple and classic. Swapping those heels or ballerina flats out for a pair of sneakers will add some cool to the look. I also love to pull out my roomy boyfriend blazers at the weekends. They are wonderful layering pieces and pair with skinny jeans and leggings best.

What are your rules of chic?
