minimal outfit with a statement piece

There’s no denial in the fact that fast fashion has gained a large portion of the market share in the apparel industry. People are very price oriented and most of us don’t buy unless it’s on a sale. Asian online stores selling cheap, eye catching clothing have been pushing their way into the West more aggressively. It’s hard to compete with them; especially when you have gone through the rude awakening of spending $100+ on a dress that can be bought for a fraction of the price from a Chinese online store. …and you notice the tag “made in China” after you took the dress home, or even wore it once.

I recently came across with a similar online store, called Irisie and tried out a few of their products. No big surprises there: their pricing is low, which makes them hard to resist and even harder to compete with. They offer eye catching designs with colorful and fun patterns and embroidery. The cons: sizing is an issue; make sure you carefully read the sizing details before you place an order. The quality is not always what the photo suggests. This bodysuit is everything you want to have in a bodysuit. It’s soft, it’s comfortable and those understated gold buttons add a nice accent to the look. The faux leather skirt has a slit that is a bit too high to my taste and the fabric is not a great quality. The detail-work on the items is however nice plus shipping is sometimes faster than ordering from a company in the States.

You look fabulous in this outfit. But I’ve never bought into the fast fashion thing. It seems that no matter what I try on in Zara or similar stores… it doesn’t fit quite right, or the fabric is not of very good quality and thus wrinkles and rumples and doesn’t lie flat where it’s supposed to lie flat. So I end up with something with a really great price that I never wear. I’d rather spend more money for something I love that fits well.

Plus people are automatically compromising on fit and quality when shopping at a fast fashion store. You notice the difference when you put on a good quality fabric that fits you perfectly and that makes stop and think whether it is really worth filling up a closet with cheap stuff that will be good for a couple of seasons. Thank you for stopping by Susan and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
