chic off the shoulder tops

The off the shoulder trend has been quite the hit lately. I am always a bit on the fence when people try to make me load up on those off-the shoulder, cold shoulder tops and dresses. I prefer not to stuff my closet with trendy items. Why? Because trends will go as quick as they come and those big and full closets make me anxious (even if they are neatly organized). I like my wardrobe transparent and not overwhelming. I cannot stand walking into closets that look like a boutique.

With all that said, I do keep a few of those trendy pieces with me and I do my best to carefully select those stylish elements, so they will be wearable even after the trend is long forgotten. This black and white striped top from Calvin Klein is one of those tops that I consider a classic. The print and color combination is elegant, plus the trendy bell sleeve and off the shoulder elements balance the simple cut quite well. This top is wonderful for casual outings, but I don’t shy away from wearing it for work by layering a button down shirt underneath. Here’s an idea how you can incorporate a top like this into your corporate outfits.

The off the shoulder black shirt HERE is an ever classic piece to grab if you live near the beach. It works great as a cover-up with shorts, but it also pairs well with jeans. The top HERE with the bishop sleeves is another one of my favorites. I love the pairing of different fabrics and this top is just so chic and effortless. This striped top HERE is just adorable and ultra feminine with those ruffles. I recommend this top for date nights with your favorite pencil or full, A-line midi skirts.

I’m also not one for filling my closet with trends unless I really enjoy them and believe I’ll wear them later. I love this top, it truly is a classic piece you can keep on wearing!

Hi Mary! I used to collect many trends during my “misspent youth” and then later I was frustrated myself for creating a cluttered closet with nothing to wear.

I feel the same way about trends (except for shoes—I’m all about shoe trends for some reason). That’s why I’ll buy some of the new trends but not pay a lot of money on them. Then when they are out of style, I don’t feel so guilty!
I just bought an OTS shirt yesterday. But it’s one of those that could work for on the shoulders too–so I think I’ll be good with it for awhile!
This black & white top is classic!!

Shoes are one of my weakness as well! I have a small shoe size, so you can imagine that the moment I see a pair in my size, I have a real hard time to resist. …who knows when another pair in my size comes along? LOL

I love following some trends, and if I know they probably will go away after one season I tend to spend WAAAAAY less on that item and put my money towards the classics that never go out, like the pencil skirt or a LBD

I hear you. The older I get, the more thought I put into my closet and essentially on what I spend my money on. Thanks so much for stopping by!

I really like this OTS top, as it has classic elements I can see myself styling over and over. You look great in this fun striped version. Thanks for linking up, Bogi!

Thanks so much! It’s the classic cut and print that made me buy this top.

I like how you added nude pumps to your look rather than the obvious choice of black or red. It looks great! Would love to connect at http://the-wardrobe-stylist.com/2017/05/14/leg-workouts-for-women/
